BIOGRAPHY
Doug Parker (b. 1990) wildlife filmmaker, photographer and Director for the; BBC, Disney +, National Geographic, Roku and Netflix.
Having spent the last 9 years in some of the most remote places on earth, I have witnessed some of the rarest wildlife spectacles ever captured on film. The more time I spend in these secret corners of the wilderness, the more I have been able to learn and capture intimate details never before caught on camera.
The challenge for me is to interpret these moments in a way that portrays them in their true form, but also leaves the images open to speculation by the viewer, as each of us perceives things in a different way. The dramatic stories that play out every day in the lives of these animals, the life and death struggles, the learning, the teaching, the joy, the sadness … are experiences and feelings we all share.
For me an image needs to do one of two things; something can be looked at for a long period of time, where stories reveal themselves the longer you look at it, and also something that can illicit an emotional response, something that hits a personal note within you the viewer.
When trying to capture the wilderness in its rawest form, you must wait for the environment around you to settle around you. This can sometimes take hours.. sometimes days… weeks or even months before the nature around you has forgotten you enough to give you that chance with that one animal. Being ready in those rare moments where all the different elements align, and you are connected at one with the environment and the animal is a process which is brutal but also one that I love,
These moments can last only 30 seconds, the intensity of emotion you feel is enormous, and amongst that excitement, nervousness, worry, joy, you need to settle your mind and attempt to capture these incredible stories.
